Student Council Jean Day Fundraiser–
Friday, September 18
Student Council is excited to announce a Jean Day fundraiser to benefit Open Arms Food Pantry!
On Friday, September 18, students may wear jeans for a minimum $1 donation. Acceptable attire includes:
• Saint Mary’s School Spirit Wear (t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie)
• Blue or black jeans
• Khaki pants
Please note that jeans must have no holes, rips, or tears, and leggings are not permitted. Uniform shorts are the only shorts permitted. Students who prefer not to participate may wear their regular uniform.
All donations will support Open Arms Food Pantry in serving our community. Thank you for your generosity!
St. Mary’s School Choir
Mrs. Strauss, our music teacher, is starting a school choir. Here are the details:
Open to: Grades 3-8
Starting: Monday, September 28
Time: Mondays after school until 3:50
Where: Art Room
Activities: Sing at school Masses and concerts
We sing many different types of music!

Note: If you join the choir, we expect you to stay for the school year.

Share the Gift of Reading with Our Pre-K Students!
We are looking for reading volunteers to join our Pre-K students in the school library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for a special 15-minute reading time. Volunteers are also welcome to stay and help with lunch afterward if their schedule allows.
Please contact the school office @ 309-367-2528 if you have 15 minutes to share on a Tuesday morning, we would love to have you join us! Your time, kindness, and love can make a lasting difference in the life of a child.

Bi-Annual Parent’s Night Out
Friday, October 2, from 4:00-7:00p.m., at Evergreen Brewery in Metamora. We will provide desserts and a cooler of water. (A food truck should be on site if you want to purchase food.) RSVP to the school office at 309-367-2528.
American Heritage Girls
American Heritage Girls have their first meeting September 14 after school in the cafeteria. Join us as we start our crafting badge, talk about service projects for the semester and our October bake sale. All medical forms MUST be turned in no later than Monday, September 14, or your daughter CANNOT stay for the meeting. Any questions, reach out to Sara Strong or Shay Obery.
Homecoming Parade Candy!
Student Council is asking for candy donations for the Homecoming Parade on September 25! Candy can be left in the school office.
Boys’ Basketball
Any 5th-8th Graders interested in trying out for the boy’s basketball team, a mandatory parent meeting and first practice/tryouts will be October 19 at 5:00 at Riverview Grade School. If you plan to participate, you must have a current physical on file in the St. Mary’s School office.
Exciting News from a St. Mary’s 2015 Alumna!
St. Mary’s alumna Lucinda Fitzgibbons,
daughter of St. Mary’s teacher
Deborah Fitzgibbons and
David Fitzgibbons, is doing amazing
things in the world of
medicine and scientific research.
Lucinda is a student in the
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Class of 2028 and has contributed to multiple scientific research publications, including research published in the journal Nature Aging. She has recently published “Emerging Roles of TMEM97/Sigma-2 Receptor in Breast Cancer Endocrine Resistance: Links to mTOR Signaling and Cholesterol Metabolism” and is cited as first author.
Being named first author indicates that the majority of research and writing was conducted by that individual. It is wonderful to see a St. Mary’s alumna continuing to learn, grow, and make meaningful contributions to the scientific community.
Way to go, Lucinda! Your St. Mary’s family is cheering you on and cannot wait to see what you accomplish next!
